Registrar Meets with Assistant Registrars
The Registrar has held a day’s meeting with all Assistant Registrars in the Registrar's Offices.
The meeting, held on Friday, August 14th, 2020 at the Amonoo Neizer Conference Centre was to brainstorm on a plan of action for the section for the 2020/2021 Academic Year in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and other related issues.
In his introductory remarks, the Registrar, stated that much as the COVID-19 was still persisting, there was the need to reopen the University so academic work could start for the 2020/2021 academic year. This he said was to be done taking into consideration the need to put in place measures that will prevent the spread of the virus.
A discussion on whether to allow students to come into residence for three (3) weeks, go back home and attend lectures online for six (6) weeks and come back into residence for two weeks to write exams was inconclusive.
Members agreed that, students’ disregard for certain rules coupled with hostel proprietors’ desire to make money may make that option non-feasible.
Other members doubted whether students will be prepared to buy data bundles for the online lecture sessions.
With lots of questions unanswered, the meeting put off a decision until the interests of all parties involved had been considered.
Staff were also offered the opportunity to outline the achievements and challenges that occurred in their line of duty in the previous academic year.
Present at the meeting was Mrs. Margaret Dzisi, Deputy Registrar, Academic.
