Legal Services Division
The Legal Services Division under the Registrar, coordinate, administer and manage legal issues relating to the University. The Division specifically;
- provide the requisite leadership and supervision of the matters of the University
- prepare and/or supervise the preparation of pleadings, legal processes and documentation for filing in the Law Courts
- represent the University in the Law Courts and make oral and written submissions on behalf of the University
- advise the Vice-Chancellor/Registrar on legal issues affecting and/or involving the University
- prepare for and on behalf of the University, conveyances including contract agreements, memorandum of understanding, etc.
- constitute at the instance of the Vice-Chancellor/Registrar Committees of Enquiry to investigate cases of misconduct
- review reports of Committees and advise the Vice-Chancellor/ Registrar in terms of compliance of due process of law
- process Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) for execution
- advise the Disciplinary Committee (Senior Members)
- proffer written legal opinions
- handle and/or advise the University on all labour and industrial issues involving the University and its Unionized Associations
- liaise with the Police and other Security Agencies on security matters affecting the University
- respond to, on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor/Registrar, letters from Solicitors for and on behalf of their clients
- settle disputes involving the University and Staff using Alternative Dispute Resolution(ADR) Mechanism.
The Division is headed by a Deputy Registrar who serves as a member of the;
- Welfare Services Board
- Security Services Management Committee
- Transport Organisation Management Committee, and
- Estate Organisation Management Committee
among other duties that may be assigned by the Vice-Chancellor/Registrar
The Division has three (3) sections as follows:
- Property and Insurance;
- Legal and Court Management; and
- Intellectual Property.
