Matthew Okrah appointed Registrar of UMaT
The Registrar of the Institute of Distance Learning, Mr. Matthew Kwabena Okrah, has been appointed Registrar of the University of Mines and Technology, Tarkwa.
Mr. Okrah, a seasoned University Administrator holds Master of Philosophy (Linquistics) and Bachelor of Arts (French/Linguistics), University of Ghana, Legon. In 1993, he also obtained a Certificate in French Language Proficiency from Centre Béninois des Langues Etrangères (UNB) Bénin. He taught at New Abirem Senior Secondary School, Kwahu Ridge Secondary School, Obo Kwahu and the then Accra Polytechnic (now Accra Technical University) at various times from 1994 to 2001.
Mr. Okrah was appointed Assistant Registrar at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in 2001 and worked at the Faculty of Art and the Human Resource Division at seperate times. He was appointed to set up the University Alumni Centre in 2004. In 2006, he was appointed Acting College Registrar for the College of Arts and Social Sciences. Between 2008 to 2014, Mr. Okrah worked as the Assistant Registrar and later Senior Assistant Registrar in charge of the Vice Chancellor’s Office, working for two different Vice Chancellors. In 2014, he worked as School Secretary for the School of Graduate Studies, where he was promoted to a Deputy Registrar. He was later transferred to the Institute of Distance Learning as the Institute’s Registrar till May 2020.
He has served on several Boards and Committees in the University and written memoranda which have impacted positively on the university’s governance and operations. He also served as an External Assessor for the promotion of administrative staff in tertiary institutions.
Mr. Okrah is a Member of the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education and the Ghana Association of University Administrators.
