Head of Basic Schools
Rev. (Mrs.) Irene Owusuaa Nkansah obtained her 3-Year Post Sec Cert ‘A’ from the Presbyterian Women’s Training College, Aburi. She holds a Diploma (2001), BEd (2002) and an MPhil (2012) all in Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Sports (HPERS) from the University of Education, Winneba.
Before joining KNUST, Mrs. Nkansah taught at Kwamo LA JHS, Essienimpong Methodist Primary School, Asamankese Methodist JHS and Asamankese Presby JHS. She has over 31 years of experience as a professional teacher. She started her career at the KNUST Basic Schools as a Physical Education (PE) teacher at the Junior High section in 2006 before moving to the Primary School section two years later.
Through the years, she has served as Head of Physical Education (PE) Department and Deputy Head, Primary School. She has also served as a member of the Basic Schools Strategic Planning Committee. In 2017, she was appointed Head of the Basic Schools.
Rev. (Mrs.) Irene Nkansah is a self-motivated person, a team player and her love for all is exceptional. She is inspired by the Word of God which keeps her going through out her work. Mrs. Nkansah is committed to duty and hard working. She accepts views, ideas and suggestions from her deputies and colleague teachers.
Her leadership at the Basic School has seen a massive improvement of infrastructure at both Primary and Junior High sections of the Basic School. She is a disciplinarian and this can be seen in the lives of both pupils and teachers at the School. Her aim for the School is excellence in academics, sports and non-academic areas such as discipline, befitting infrastructure to make KNUST Basic School one of the best if not the best Basic School in the country by all standards.
Rev. (Mrs.) Nkansah is a Reverend Minister of the Methodist Church Ghana, and is married with three children.
